Is custom hydraulics needed for car transporters?
Usually not. The hydraulic functions of a car transporter are well established, and standard flow dividers and load holding valves are generally suitable.
What matters is the right selection and combination of components for the specific vehicle and load. If your design does call for something different, we work it out with you.
- How do the decks of a car transporter lift evenly?
"
The decks are lifted by two cylinders, one on the left and one on the right. They have to extend at exactly the same speed, otherwise the deck tilts and a vehicle can slide off.
A flow divider makes this possible. It divides one incoming oil flow into two equal flows: 40 litres per minute in becomes 20 litres per minute to each cylinder. As a result, both cylinders extend evenly, even when the load on the two sides differs.
"
- How are the decks of a car transporter held in position?
"
Every lift cylinder has a load holding valve, on both the left and right side. This keeps a raised deck exactly in position, also during transport, and prevents it from coming down onto the vehicles below.
Other functions, such as sliding sections used to move vehicles into position, are secured with pilot operated check valves.
"
- How many flow dividers does a car transporter need?
"
Several. Every function in which two cylinders have to move in sync needs its own flow divider. A car transporter with multiple decks and adjustable sections therefore uses a considerable number of them.
They are usually mounted centrally on the vehicle, so both cylinders receive an even supply.
